New Guideline for Diagnosing Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
The American Thoracic Society, European Respiratory Society, Japanese Respiratory Society, and Latin American Thoracic Society have published a new clinical practice guideline to help physicians diagnose IPF, a progressive lung disease that results in scarring of the lungs.
New Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Care of LAM: Part II
The American Thoracic Society and the Japanese Respiratory Society have published four additional clinical practice guidelines pertaining to the diagnosis of LAM and management of pneumothoraces in patients with LAM.

ATS and Marron Institute Report: Health of the Air
The "ATS and Marron Institute Report: Estimated Excess Morbidity and Mortality Associated with Air Pollution above ATS-Recommended Standards, 2013-2015" is published online in the Annals of the American Thoracic Society. The new report builds on the two organizations' 2016 "Health of the Air Report" by using the latest air quality data available. The latest report includes two new measures--short-term PM2.5 and lung cancer incidence--to give a clearer picture of how air pollution impacts health in the U.S.
Smell and Tell! Kids Respond to Candy-Flavored Tobacco
Tobacco companies are producing candy-flavored products to appeal to youth. The ATS recently conducted a smell test to see if children could tell the difference between candy and candy-flavored tobacco products.
World Lung Day 2017
The American Thoracic Society joins the Forum for International Respiratory Societies in the call to recognize Sept. 25 as World Lung Day, an annual event dedicated to respiratory disease that helps focus attention and resources on an often overlooked, but very real threat to global health.
