Atul Malhotra, MD, is triple board certified in pulmonary disease, sleep medicine, and critical care medicine. He is also chief of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Malhotra provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients with sleep-related disorders, including sleep apnea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, and sleep disorders related to medical or psychiatric conditions.
His research interests in sleep medicine include the pathogenesis of sleep apnea and the metabolic/cardiovascular complications of sleep disorders. He is the author of nearly 500 research articles, reviews, and book chapters. He served as the president of the American Thoracic Society in 2015-2016.
