Courtney Broaddus, MD, is a professor of medicine and associate director of the Lung Biology Center at the University of California, San Francisco.
After an early career investigating the biology of the pleural mesothelial cell, she has worked for the last 10 years to understand the mechanisms of the chemo-resistance of the pleural tumor, mesothelioma. In tackling this question, she has pursued innovative models, mainly 3D in vitro and ex vivo mesothelioma models, and shown how they provide clinically relevant insights into mesothelioma chemo-resistance.
