Hill Day 2024
During the week of March 18, American Thoracic Society members attended virtual and in-person meetings with House and Senate Congressional staff.
Meetings were held to discuss issues of importance to the ATS including recommendations for the fiscal year 2025 appropriations for the National Institutes of Health and public health programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and requesting co-sponsorship of the End TB Now Act (S. 288/H.R. 1776). Representatives from the Public Advisory Roundtable (PAR) also spoke with House and Senate staff about congressional support for the Supplemental Oxygen Access Reform Act (S. 3821).
ATS member Dr. Stuart Sweet reflects saying: “I look forward to ATS Hill Day every year because it affords an opportunity to reconnect with people I’ve worked with previously and develop new relationships with congressional staff,” said Stuart Sweet, MD, chair of the ATS Health Policy Committee. "this year was no different, and I was lucky to be able to take the opportunity while in DC for another reason to make some of my visits in person. Congressional staff were accessible and receptive to addressing TB control, addressing Medicare supplemental oxygen coverage gaps and supporting NIH and CDC funding to prevent, treat and cure respiratory diseases. Thanks to all the ATS members and partners who contributed to another successful, ATS Hill Day!”
Hill Day 2023
During the week of March 20, American Thoracic Society members attended virtual meetings with House and Senate Congressional staff.
More than 30 meetings were held to discuss issues of importance to the ATS including recommendations for the fiscal year 2024 appropriations for the National Institutes of Health and public health programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, request for co-sponsorship of the End TB Now Act, and congressional support for access to supplemental oxygen.

More than 20 meetings were held to discuss issues of importance to the ATS including recommendations for fiscal year 2023 appropriations for the National Institutes of Health and public health programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in addition to a request for co-sponsorship of the Comprehensive TB Elimination Act.
ATS members also addressed the impact of the pandemic on patient care, workforce, and medical research, offering compelling first-hand stories
