Objectives
- To provide a location for the exchange of ideas among ATS members who utilize genetics, genomics, and other “omics” technologies (proteomics, metabolomics, etc.) to study the wide array of diseases in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine.
- To increase understanding of genetics and genomics among the clinicians and researchers who comprise the broader membership of the ATS.
- To encourage and to provide practical advice to trainees in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine who are considering research in the fields of genetics and genomics.
Scope
The scope of the Section on Genetics and Genomics is not limited to a specific disease or set of diseases, but instead encompasses a common set of approaches to the study of the wide variety of diseases encountered in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. The section includes all applications of human and model organism genetics and genomics and other “omics” technologies (proteomics, metabolomics, etc.), that consist of the integration of large-scale biology with information sciences.
