Meet the 2024 Winner: Kymberly Gowdy BS, MS, PhD
Dr. Kymberly Gowdy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at The Ohio State University, where she works on understanding the molecular mechanisms by which air pollution increases susceptibility and severity of infectious and inflammatory lung diseases. She is also the Associate Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program in the College of Medicine at The Ohio State University. She received her doctorate in Immunology and Toxicology from North Carolina State University in 2008, did a postdoc at Duke University Medical Center from 2008-2011 and a second postdoc at NIEHS from 2011-2014. Dr. Gowdy is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Immunology and AJP-Lung and is currently an Associate Editor for Toxicological Sciences. Dr. Gowdy has been a member of American Thoracic Society since 2007, has sat on EOPH Programing and Nominating committee and is currently a member of Membership Committee. She is currently a standing member of the Environmental Determinants of Disease Scientific Review Committee for the National Institutes of Health. She has authored/co-authored 75 publications including peer-reviewed articles and/or book chapters. She has mentored numerous postdoctoral fellows (PhD and MDs), graduate students, and undergraduates and was recently named the Melissa Piper Distinguished Mentor in the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute.

This is award is given to a primary EOPH member with exemplary commitment to EOPH (and ATS), to advancing the mission of the assembly, and with demonstrated significant and sustained contributions to the assembly in the areas of research, improving public health, teaching, mentoring, and/or service (may include leadership). Individuals eligible for consideration at the associate professor level (or equivalent), within <5 years of full Professor, or within 10-20 years from first faculty/investigator appointment. Nominations of diverse candidates (by gender, race/ethnicity, country, area of focus and primary occupation) are highly encouraged.
Criteria:
- Associate professor (or equivalent), within <5 years of full Professor, or within 10-20 years from first faculty/investigator appointment
- EOPH Assembly Member (primary)
- Exemplary commitment to EOPH and ATS and to advancing the mission of the EOPH assembly
- Significant and sustained contributions to the assembly in the areas of research, improving public health, teaching, mentoring, and/or service (may incl- leadership)
Note: Award nominations will be carried over for 3 years and the Planning Committee may choose to move nominees to a different award category for optimal review.
